"LE PETIT CALON" Saint Estephe 2017
"LE PETIT CALON" Saint Estephe 2017
Located in St Estephe appellation, Chateau Calon-Segur acquired the rank of third classified Growth in the famous 1855 classification. From 1894 to 2012, Calon’s owners, the Gasqueton family, preserved the estate’s identity with sobriety and elegance.
Today, Chateau Calon-Segur is owned by a subsidiary of the banking group Credit Mutuel, headed by Jean-Pierre Denis. To manage the estate, he has chosen Laurent Dufau, a Medocain born and bred, and the grandson of a wine-grower. The technical management remains in the hands of Vincent Millet, who was recruited by Denise Gasqueton in 2006.
Fifty-five hectares at the time of the 1855 classification, fifty-five hectares today: the estate is a rare example of consistency of terroir over the centuries.
Graphite, wild herbs, bracken, violets and such spicy black and blueberries. The palate has impressive concentration, yet very supple, charming texture. Such impressively articulated tannin detail with very fine, long tannins and deeply integrated oak. This wine is so full of flavour and interest from start to finish.
